Its been a very busy few weeks with three consecutive race weekends culminating at Brands Hatch on 12th September. In between we’ve had various test sessions and a rear-end rebuild in garage 27 at Brands yesterday! Mallory Park (Magnificent 7s) An eventful race day with heavy showers making qualifying rather treacherous; I can’t find any pictures to testify to this but those Avon ZZRs do not work in the wet! Our main 40 minute race went well, although some over-zealous defending from another driver lost us a chunk of time with a spin. Fourth place and a class win was a bit below where we should have been but on to Silverstone... Silverstone (Magnificent 7s) Best qualifying result so far with a set of newly-scrubbed tyres yielding 3rd on the grid and over a second faster than the next C400. After a strong first half of the race, I couldn’t quite contain my enthusiasm and was caught breaching the pit lane speed limit. A stop and go penalty dropped us down the order but we caught and passed the fifth-placed car at Copse on the last lap. Not quite the fight for second we should have managed but a great day’s racing nonetheless. Brands Hatch (SEMSEC) Testing on 10th was meant to be a set-up day as we look to make better use of the tyres. We hired Luke Stevens, who has a wealth or racing and prep experiences with Caterhams, to come along and show us how to adjust the balance of the car. As he set about the car he spotted a rear upright joint on the verge of failure. Quick trip around the South East for a new De Dion tube and various bits, followed by a rapid re-build of the rear suspension and we got out for two brief session of the Indy track. We have three races on 12th and hoping to push some very quick Caterhams for a class win. |
